Sick of BTE Devices? ITE Hearings Aids Might Be for You

Sick of BTE Devices? ITE Hearings Aids Might Be for YouAre you looking for a hearing aid that’s discreet but powerful? Are you sick of your current devices getting dislodged by glasses and mask straps? Then it might be time to consider investing in a pair of in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids.

What are ITE Hearing Aids?

In-the-ear hearing aids are small electronic devices with a mic, amplifier and receiver in a single plastic case. The entire hearing device fits in your outer ear or ear canal without the need for external tubes or wires.

Benefits of ITE Hearing Aids

Size: These hearing aids come in several styles, including in-the-canal (ITC), completely-in-the-canal (CIC) and invisible-in-the-canal (IIC). Each style is nearly invisible to the naked eye because of its unique fit. ITE hearing aids are also custom made to fit your ear shape, so they’re comfortable to wear.

Function: ITE hearing aids are an excellent option if you have mild to moderate hearing loss. They provide powerful sound interpretation and speech comprehension. Because ITE devices are situated closer to your eardrum, they require less power to produce quality sound, reducing the likelihood of feedback. Your outer ear also creates a natural barrier and protects against wind noise.

Features: Their smaller size limits the number of features in ITE hearing aids. However, they’re easy to program, and some brands come with Bluetooth connectivity and rechargeable batteries. So, you can wirelessly stream TV audio, music and phone calls.

They’re Easy to Maintain

Cleaning ITE hearing aids requires three easy steps:

  • Use a brush or pick provided by your audiologist to clear earwax and debris out of the mic ports. Tilt the device downward to ensure the particles fall out.
  • Remove the wax guard and insert a new one.
  • Wipe down the device with a clean cloth or tissue to remove earwax and moisture buildup.

Eliminate Mask Troubles

The COVID-19 pandemic has ensured mask-wearing is here to stay for the immediate future, which may prove problematic for behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aid wearers. One of the biggest problems hearing aid users face is getting their devices tangled with mask straps.

Taking your mask on and off can loosen or dislodge BTE hearing aid receivers. That increases your risk of losing one or both hearing devices, which means you’ll have to spend more money to replace them.

With ITE hearing aids, however, you don’t have to worry about your devices tangling with your mask straps. Earloops won’t interact with ITE devices because they’re situated in your ear canal. Their recessed design also makes it easy to use phones and wear headsets.
